| Born
in Greensboro on Jan. 16, 1952, to Albert F. Stevens Jr., and Carolyn
Langston Stevens, Albert graduated from Page High School and enlisted
in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War. He attended UNC-CH,
taking classes in journalism, and became a sports writer for Rugby magazine,
traveling the world playing and writing about the sport. In 1975, he co-founded
the Greensboro Triad Rugby Team. He coached both the men's and women's
rugby teams at UNCG. After moving to Wilmington, Albert was involved with
the Cape Fear Rugby Tournament and started the company RU Limited. Albert
was a sportsman and hunter, a water skier, a great fan of Carolina basketball
and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was known for his friendships with all
ages of people and his interest in civic and environmental affairs, often
expressing his opinions in letters to the newspaper editor. Albert will
forever be remembered. |
